Victorian garden

New turf and circular flower bed at the Station entrance (above)
After the restoration works at the Station were completed some of the outdoor spaces were left as soil with lots of hardcore and rubbish. STC wanted the areas to compliment the new restored Station so asked some volunteers to come up with some ideas to create a Victorian inspired plan for the areas. Discussions with garden designers also took place regarding how different planting schemes would work.
The areas which will be planted include either side of the station entrance, the area behind and opposite the ticket machine and the large area beyond the new bike racks. Plants will include lavender, roses, wild flowers and herbs which can be used in the café. Box hedging and brick paths will also be a feature giving the feel of a typical Victorian style garden.
Last weekend saw the start of planting; new turf has been laid on the bed at the Station entrance with a circular flower bed which will eventually have a rose bush planted in the middle. Even without flowers or plants the areas are looking much better already and we are looking forward to what happens next. We will keep you updated as each of the areas are planted over the coming months.
If you enjoy gardening are looking to get involved in local community activity we are looking for volunteers to help with planting and maintaining these spaces. For more information please contact heo@sevenoakstown.gov.uk
