What is the Forget Me Not cafe and how to volunteer

Our Forget-me-not café is here to provide support and companionship to those who are recognising issues with their memory or cognition as well as providing support for their careers, family, and friends. We facilitate the cafe as a collaboration with the Forget Me Not Cafe charity - for details and also information about the other cafes in the West Kent area please visit Forget Me Not Cafes

At Bat and Ball we run activities each month which are specialised for people with memory difficulties, to help them engage in distant memories and look into their past. As we’re a heritage building and quite a few of our attendees are local, we occasionally run talks tailored to Bat & Ball Station e.g. our history or the history of station masters. It’s lovely to see attendees light up when engaging in an activity or simply just being present at our Station’s Forget-me-not café.

Volunteering at our café means simply being yourself and engaging with those attending. You don’t need to have prior knowledge or experience of dementia, in conjunction with the head office of Forget Me Not Cafes we can help you with training. Our volunteers come from all different backgrounds, a few can only volunteer for short periods of time a year and some are more regulars who attend each month.

We will require you to arrive around 30 minutes before the event and stay 30 minutes after, this is to help set up/clear out the hall. If you’re not able to help out for the full time, not to worry- we will understand! It’s also very helpful to help promote our free café around Sevenoaks and/or your local area, the more people know the better.

The Forget-me-not café runs every last Wednesday of the month from 10:30am - 12:30pm. Volunteers will volunteer from 10am – 1pm.
