Time Capsule

Published: 10 September 2018

During the refurbishment all the wooden floors are being replaced, so before the final floor goes down it was suggested to bury a time capsule underneath the floor of the original booking office.

To preserve this ‘moment in time’ the capsule contained a variety of current items including a map of Sevenoaks town, a copy of Sevenoaks Chronicle, a train ticket, a Lottery ticket, coins, an HLF Bat & Ball Station Leaflet, STC Annual Report and Northern Masterplan, Theis & Khan architect plans, toy car, stickers, postcards and current press cuttings. The capsule was engraved with the following message ‘Sevenoaks Town Council provided this time capsule as part of the Bat & Ball Station refurbishment. 2018’.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor, Sevenoaks Town Councillors, members of Friends of Bat & Ball Station group and Sevenoaks Youth Council. The Mayor gave a short speech about the time capsule, what its contents means and thanked all those involved in the Bat & Ball Restoration project before laying the capsule under the floor.

The time capsule will be opened in forty-four years’ time in 2062 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of when Bat & Ball Station building was originally completed.
